A beautiful denim blue Spinel ring designed and set in the prettiest floral styled setting, in 18K rose gold. Looking at the face of this stone, one sees all the gemstone’s facets clearly, regardless which angle the Spinel is viewed from.
This spinel has a beautiful soft seductive shade of blue, not commonly seen in blue spinels which often feature a teal / green undertone. We would describe this as sky blue with an overtone of denim blue.
The marquise shaped diamonds complements the certain roundness to the cushion shaped centre Spinel.
Unlike Sapphires and Tanzanites, there is almost no known treatment (chemical or heating) known to man for Spinels. It is fairly safe for consumers to assume that Spinels are almost always unheated and untreated. And any jeweller who tries to sell you otherwise, (ie: try to sell you a Spinel for a lot higher than an unheated Sapphire on the basis that the Spinel is unheated) should be regarded with caution. Because at the end of the day, nearly all Spinels are unheated and untreated.
Assuming quality is comparable and near-equal with that of an unheated similar colour Sapphire, ie: both gemstones are of a nice open colour, not too dark and not too light in shade, well-faceted, eye-clean, the price of the spinel is usually a tier lower than an unheated Sapphire in a similar quality and colour. However, the price of the same spinel will usually be higher than a heated Sapphire in similar quality and colour. There are some exceptions to this norm and that would the cobalt blue Spinel, which is a topic for another day.
Notice from photos above, that despite being photographed at an angle, the spinel shows off its beautiful facets, with no large areas of shadows or windows. Proper, well-cut gemstones allow light and therefore gemstone’s colour to be evenly distributed so that a stone’s beauty can be appreciated at all angles.
