This is not your typical wedding bands. Showcasing “his-and-hers” steel-blue spinel and baby pink spinel rings. We call them the LifeBands.
Born out of the idea of creating a simple, unique yet 100% wearable design on a daily basis, brainstorming with the couple, the wedding bands designs were eventually translated from paper to life.
An apparently simple design is much harder to craft than one might imagine.
The ladies’ ring, features an exquisite baby pink spinel that is seemingly suspended in mid-air and the gents’ ring has a bezel-set gorgeous steel-blue spinel.
With minimal use of diamonds, but the main focus on the construction and curvature of gold work, we were able to create a stunning, unique yet very wearable style for the couple.
Oftentimes, our clients’ feedback during the design-stage discussion is that they see something beautiful in-store, a unique design, but it is not something that they can see themselves wearing regularly or daily. Because it is so unique, it seems wearable only for that few occasions – thereafter, it becomes somewhat dated.
And that was our mission for this pair of bands. For “life-wear”, it had to be unique yet wearable for the rest of their lives, something classy yet different.
No one said that diamonds were a necessity in creating your perfect engagement ring. And that was the wish of this client, who wanted a simple, romantic design which they could call their own.
The devil is in the construction and detailing of this ring. Unlike the typical construction of a ring that uses at least 2 or more separate pieces/parts of gold to create, this ring design uses only 1 long strip of intertwining gold. This symbolises the love between 2 people; and for each other. There is no breakage nor joining of gold in the construction of this ring design. It is a simple, organic and very clean look for this unheated sapphire ring. After all, the intensity of this royal blue sapphire speaks for itself.
Featured here is a yellow sapphire ring set in a 3D spiral concept in 18K white gold and diamonds. Unique, beautiful and an eye-catcher from all angles.
Each spoke is individually hand welded onto the frame of the ring, which is then followed by a diamond at the end of each spoke. Seated in the centre is a round yellow sapphire, akin to a budding flower.
In the truest sense of the word blue, how can one go wrong with such a ring? On the contrary, this is not an engagement ring. Simply, a client who appreciates a pure unheated gem, untainted by man, unrivalled in beauty. Stunning on its own, needing not much more than a simple setting of one halo of diamonds to accentuate this blue beauty.
Crafted in 18K white gold, this is truly a piece to be handed over to the next generation.
Not only do we source for fine quality gemstones, Heritage Gems also has access to natural south sea pearls. Natural south sea pearls come in a variety of colours, ranging from champagne to silver white to cream, tahitian grey and peacock-coloured pearls. Pearl jewellery make for a classic, timeless gift that a lady can wear for now and in the years to come.
As Coco Chanel once said “A woman needs ropes and ropes of pearls.” And who can forget Jackie Kennedy’s love of pearls: “Pearls are always appropriate.”
A special client of ours wanted to surprise his wife with a gift on her birthday. A necklace and earring peal set that she could wear on semi-casual occasions and when they go on dates. How romantic!
After careful selection of the pearls to ensure consistent colour, lustre and correct size, the pearls were then chosen to ensure all 7 pearls had as little blemish as possible.
There were several options provided during design discussion process. Fancy-cut marquise diamonds were also proposed to match our client’s face shape. Fancy-cut setting size diamonds are always a premium price to regular round setting size diamonds.
Above: Pearl and diamond selection process. Each pearl is carefully handpicked to ensure similar colour, lustre and clarity (i.e.: as little blemish as possible).
Above: 5-pc Natural South Sea Pearl and Diamond Drop Necklace. Each piece is an 11mm diameter pearl (which is relatively large for natural pearls).
Blue Sapphire Engagement Rings are fast gaining popularity, especially since Kate Middleton was proposed to with one.
Requesting for a blue sapphire sounds relatively simple enough. And how hard can it be to customise that special, ideal engagement ring? But there are actually several considerations to be thought through before settling on that ideal piece.
Shade of blue: Light blue? Medium Blue? Deep? Inky Blue? Royal Blue?
Fine quality should be evenly-toned and well-saturated colour.
When viewing the loose gem, pay attention that as the gem is tilted/rocked from side-to-side, that there is colour throughout the entire gem. Commercial quality sapphires tend to have colour-banding/colour-zones whereby certain parts of the gem are colourless.
Why are sapphires with colour-bands/colour-zones considered commercial quality? It is common for sapphires to exhibit these streaks of blue, due to the way the rock is formed. While this does not affect the integrity of the gem, it certainly does not enhance the aesthetic beauty of the gem. Hence, a market premium is paid for well-saturated and evenly coloured gems.
Unheat or Heat?: Again, this is entirely a matter of personal preference. However, heated sapphires are easily found and beautiful heated sapphires are plenty abound. So, if one is able to chance upon a aesthetically beautiful gem that is 100% untreated and unheated, it would add to the value of the gem.
What is your choice of metal?
What style of ring? What sort of design? This will affect budget too.
Featured below is a custom-made, eye-catching medium-blue unheated sapphire ring set in 950 pure platinum, with E-F diamonds. Notice how the sapphire seems to glow from within! Very good lustre and brilliancy, evenly-toned with a strong medium blue hue. This eye-catching piece is a stunner even without the aid of direct light source.

For those looking to adorn yourselves with diamonds and bling but do not wish to stretch that pocket too far, look no further. Gemstones such as Amethysts, Blue Topaz, Yellow Beryls, Citrines, Peridots, Rose Quartz are definitely much more affordable than most other types of gemstones.
Nonetheless, affordability is not to be mistaken with cheap. These gemstones are simply more inexpensive when compared with other more rare and precious gems. The main reasons are due to its common availability and these gemstones are usually always heated or have gone through some form of irradiation treatment.
A recently completed example of fine jewellery that does not burst your pocket is showcased below. A beautiful Swiss Blue Topaz set in 18K white gold and diamonds.

The final product
The final outcome is a stunning rock that is both classy and elegant, yet easier on the pocket.
A recently completed set of jewellery for an esteemed client who was looking for a complete set of jewellery for her engagement. Our client does not reside in Singapore.
She was intrigued by pink colour gemstones but was not sure of which gemstones were a good colour with nice lustre and brilliancy for her specific budget. After much detailed discussions and understanding her requirements, we finally decided on sourcing Pink Tourmalines to make a pair of earrings and a ring.
We managed to source an almost identical pair of Pink Tourmalines. However, due to our strict in-house Quality Control and exacting standards, we were unable to set this into a pair of earrings for our client since the original size of the gemstones were not an exact matching pair in terms of size. At Heritage Gems, re-cutting gemstones is not an issue. Photo above was before re-cut.
While the gemstones were being sent to the re-cutting process, we proceeded on design & sketches for the complete set of jewellery.
The final set below, completed. Sweet, beautiful and simple. Pair of drop earrings and ring set in 18K white gold with Brilliant Pink Tourmalines.
